The Australian and New Zealand transport agencies have updated guidance on management and maintenance of bridges.
The new material in Austroads’ Guide to Bridge Technology Part 7: Maintenance and Management of Existing Bridges includes:
- a spectrum between condition rating and defect mapping
- establishing consistent definitions for bridges and culverts
- a ‘Rosetta Stone’ of bridge componentisation that describes the nuances found between the different jurisdictions
- standardised descriptors for component ratings
- clarifying inspection levels and frequencies
- measures for audit, quality control and inspector training
